Treaty United have been dealt a massive blow just three days before the start of the League of Ireland season with the news that midfielder Ryan Connolly has left the club due to work commitments. Connolly only signed for the club before Christmas from Finn Harps and had only made one competitive appearance in the Munster Senior Cup. It had been hoped that his experience would significantly add to Tommy Barrett’s side.
The club announced the news on their official media accounts tonight.
Connolly appeared to be forming a useful partnership with Lee Devitt during pre-season but the options in the middle of the park are sparse for Treaty before the big kick-off as a result of his departure. Mark Walsh had been primed to partner Anthony O’Donnell at centre-back but may now be needed in midfield where he has proven more than capable in the past 2 seasons.
Barrett will be hopeful that Colin Conroy and Martin Coughlan can make an impression in their second season at the club while midfielder Josh Quinlivan has been promoted from the U-19’s squad and remains Treaty senior men’s youngest goal scorer following his goal against Cabinteely on the final day of the season in 2021.
We launched the third season of ‘The Soccer Scene’ this week with Adrian Finnin and Noel O’Connor having in-depth discussion about Treaty United and all their First Division rivals ahead of the new season including new signings, departures and pre-season form on the criteria.
