Sarah Lavin powers into World Athletics Championship semi-finals

She is in the form of her life and will be back on the track this evening as she bids to make the final eight at the Worlds.

Sarah Lavin ease her way into the 100m hurdles semi-finals at the 2023 World Athletics Championships last night.

The Emerald AC athlete powered through her heat in Budapest, finishing with a time of 12.69, just 0.02 of her PB which was set just last month.

She is in the form of her life and will be back on the track this evening as she bids to make the final eight at the Worlds.

However, there is room for improvement for the Limerick native who says she may need an Irish record if she is to reach the finals.

“I need to be more clinical about the start, there is no area I can let off. You are against the best girls in the world and only 40 are lucky enough to come here and ow you are down to the 24, it just keeps dropping and dropping.

“To make that eight, it will require something special and everything really, really precise in the moment. I think it’s going to require something beyond the national record and we know Derval was one of the most prolific athletes so it’s no mean feat.

“Ultimately, we do everything right in the moment, I fear nothing.”

Lavin’s semi-final is at 7.45pm on Wednesday evening and you can watch live coverage of the Irish athletics competitors at the World Athletics Championships here.
