“That’s not going to cut it at Senior A” | Ahane’s Tom Morrissey on number of wides and missed chances

The spoils were shared between Ahane and Adare in their SHC opener last Thursday.

The first game of the 2022 Limerick Senior Hurling Championship finished honours even between Ahane and Adare, as they both scored 1-15 apiece.

An Adare injury time point was the deciding factor as both sides put one point on the table in a game that was level four times in the first half.

Willie Griffin notched the goal for Adare while Limerick hurler Tom Morrissey hit the back of the net for Ahane, both goals coming in the second half.

In his post-match interview, Morrissey touched on his sides inaccuracy and believes it was a deciding factor in the game.

“It took us a while to settle into the game and get composed and I think we finished with what must have been 18 or 19 wides and that’s not going to cut it at senior A and you’re definitely not going to win a game with that much wides.

“I suppose that’s the only negative from today but everything else, I think I’m very happy with.”

Although it’s a point dropped, Morrissey is confident in his side’s ability to compete with the top four sides throughout the championship.

Ahane were priced as seventh favourites for the title before the opening weekend and have featured in successive relegation finals, winning both.

With Patrickswell this weekend, Morrissey is hoping to “make a dent.”

“We were looking forward to getting back in and cracking into this championship at senior A, it’s our third year up here and as you say, we’re trying to make a dent in that top four and Adare are as well and it’s a challenge and that’s what we’re looking forward to.”
