Rowntree was appointed as Munster head coach earlier this year.
As pre-season continues for the Munster Rugby team, Graham Rowntree spoke to the media ahead of his first game in charge as he sees his side face Gloucester this Friday.
The game will take place in Musgrave Park, which will also be the venue for their clash against London Irish next Friday. It will be the first opportunity to see Rowntree’s Munster side in action as they prepare for another season.
Ahead of the game, new head coach Rowntree said he’s very happy with his new crop of players so far and how they’ve adapted well to his changes, praising the energy they’ve showed so far in his short tenure,
“So far so good, made quite a few changes in what we’re doing on the field and within the environment, but the lads have adapted well, can’t fault their energy the lads have been fantastic, they’re just getting used to a few tweaks to how we train.”
As well as the players, it will also be Rowntree’s first game alongside his new coaching staff. Mike Prendergast, Andi Kyriacou and Denis Leamy are the coaches Rowntree named shortly after his appointment.
The Munster coach has also been very happy with their efforts so far in pre-season and complimented each for their hard work on and off the field.
“They’ve very much been cracking on with it, they’ve grabbed the ball by the horns, they’ve been great the lads. They’ve got some energy, on the field and in meetings as well and the lads can really appreciate that, they’re feeding off that.”
Munster will face Gloucester Rugby this Friday at 7:30pm in Musgrave Park in a pre-season friendly.
