Three goal Limerick see off Tipperary at Semple Stadium

Limerick earned their first win in the Munster SFC after beating Tipperary 3-11 to 1-10 at Semple Stadium.

Three second half goals from Iain Corbett, Cillian Fahy and Peter Nash saw Limerick to a seven-point win.

Limerick made an excellent start to the game with points from Jamie Lee and Adrian Enright but Tipperary replied through Michael Quinlivan and Conor Sweeney to level the game for the first time.

Steven O’Brien then put Liam Kearns’ side ahead but Iain Corbett squared things up at the end of a tight opening quarter.

Sweeney and Enright swapped points again but Limerick then hit the front with efforts from Jamie Lee and a superb Sean McSweeney free.

Limerick kept the lead until the final stages of the first half but Quinlivan ensured the sides couldn’t be separated at the break.

Corbett landed the first score of the second half with an outrageous point and followed it up with an even better goal after good work by Darragh Treacy.

Limerick were also keeping things tight at the back, keeping Tipperary scoreless for the first 25 minutes of the second half.

In that time, Fahy buried his goal. He took control of Lee’s mishit shot and fired low past Evan Comerford.

Tipperary responded with a Michael Quinlivan goal but Limerick saw out the victory with Nash’s goal after Comerford saved Sean McSweeney’s initial shot.

Scorers for Limerick: Iain Corbett 1-2, Cillian Fahy 1-2, Jamie Lee 0-4 (1f), Peter Nash 1-0, Adrian Enright 0-2, Sean McSweeney 0-1 (1f).
