Tigris River gives JP McManus Galway Hurdle victory

Top Limerick racehorse owner JP McManus claimed the richest race race of the Galway Summer Festival today, as Tigris River got up in the shadow of the post to defeat Swamp Fox by a neck in the Grade A Guinness Handicap Hurdle.

Jockey Barry Geraghty donned the famous green and gold silks, following his from injury on Monday, and claimed his first victory in the Galway Hurdle.

The in form Joseph O’Brien was the winning trainer, securing the prize 20 years after his father Aidan had won it with Toast the Spreece.

It capped off a famous double on the day for O’Brien and McManus as they had also teamed up for victory in the Beginners Chase with Tesseract.
