Limerick suffered a 15-point defeat to Tipperary in the Munster Camogie Championship quarter-final. Goals were certainly the difference at Semple Stadium in a game that was the curtain raiser for the senior hurling clash.
A devasting start saw Karen Kennedy rattle the net inside the first minute and from here Limerick were playing catch-up.
Despite scores from Laura Southern and Stephanie Woulfe, Limerick trailed by even more when Kennedy got her second green flag.
On a difficult afternoon for camogie, there was a paltry support for both counties ahead of the Senior hurling clash. By half-time, Caoimhe Costelloe had added three frees but a third goal, this time from Roisin Howard ensured a healthy 3-5 to 0-5 interval lead for the Premier.
A fourth goal, from Clodagh McIntyre, ended any hopes of a second half-revival as the gap between theses was shown.
Joe Quaid introduced Ciara Neenan and Aine Foley at half-time, but there was little change in the second half. A gallant effort from Limerick perhaps didn’t yield the scores the deserved as focus now turns to
Cork will entertain Limerick in the All Ireland group series, on May 24th. This group also contains Tipperary, Wexford and Clare.
