WATCH | All the angles of that Gearoid Hegarty All-Ireland final goal

The St Patricks man was unplayable on Sunday afternoon in picking up his second All-Ireland final man of the match award.

With less than four minutes on the clock in Croke Park, Limerick’s Gearoid Hegarty had already laid down his marker as from out of nothing he produced one of the great All-Ireland final goals.

That kickstarted an incredible individual performance as Hegarty clipped over 1-5 from all angles in on e of the great All-Ireland final displays.

None of those scores would have been classified as gimmies but there was no doubting the pick of the bunch, that being his first.

It continued the trend of great Gearoid Hegarty goals this summer, following on from his special effort in the Munster final where he showed his suite of skills.

The Goal

After Diarmaid Byrnes settled Limerick into the contest with a long range free, Nickie Quaid had a free out on the sideline on his own 21′

Delivering it long into the full forward line, Aaron Gillane and Huw Lawlor challenged in the sky with the ball breaking behind them towards Seamus Flanagan and Tommy Walsh.

The Feohanagh Castlemahon man was unable to gather possession as the sliotar made its way into a crowd of onrushing players.

Falling between Mikey Carey and Richie Reid, there was nothing either could do to stop Hegarty who flew on the ball, using a deft flick to gain control of the sliotar.

Without skipping a beat, Hegarty used his size to brush off Reid but the angle slowly closed off with the St Patricks man moving away from the goal.

But making little of the fact that one of the best goalkeepers of all time was facing him, Hegarty was able to fire the sliotar into the only free spot in the goal, finding the top corner of the net.

Hegarty wheeled away in delight but did little to rest on his laurels, adding five more points from play as he proved the difference in helping Limerick to a three-in-a-row.
