Limerick are back into the All Ireland final for the first time since 2007 after a classic 3-32 to 2-31 victory over Cork in Croke Park. After falling behind late in the second half, Limerick rallied to take the game to extra time before scoring a brace of goals in extra time to secure the famous win.
Speaking after the game, captain Declan Hannon was clearly exhausted after what was a an hour and a half of non stop action. Hannon alluded to the semi-final losses in 2013 and 2014 whilst commending the spirit of this current crop of Limerick players.
“It’s a happy dressing room. A tired dressing room. A lot of sore bodies in there so it’s going to be a few days before we recover from today. But obviously very happy after the result.”
“They were heartbreaking losses. I don’t think we were ready in those years for the occasion of the semi finals. We’re a different group physically and mentally this 2018 squad.”
“I think we were in a better space coming into today. Going 8 or 9 points down, we still just ground it out and kept going until the final whistle.”
“We did a boxing fundraiser back in November and we went at each other. It built morale and created a bond that hasn’t been broke this year. Everyone has bought into what we are doing and that’s the main difference.”
