WATCH: Gearoid Hegarty “Every team wants to play in the top division”

Gearoid Hegarty was a huge physical presence for Limerick today in what was a real dog fight between the two sides at Innovate Wexford Park. Limerick eventually ran out 3 point winners but it could have been a different story had Conor McDonald’s late shot not come back off the post.

Speaking to the media afterwards Hegarty says it was a tough fixture to have first up.

“Wexford Park is always a tough place to come. It was a good fixture for us in the first round of the league because obviously we haven’t as much training done as other counties because of what happened last year. It was a good fixture to get because it focused us straight away.”

The St Patrick’s club man was also happy about their return to the top flight and says it is the place to be especially with regard to championship preparation.

“No matter what sport you are in, every team wants to play in the top division. It will give us the best way to prepare for the championship which is the goal of every county.”
