The Golden Lions Super Rugby franchise has confirmed that their defence coach JP Ferreira is in contract negotiations with Munster about a possible move to the Irish province.
Golden Lions CEO and former World Cup winner with the Springboks Rudolf Straeuli issued a statement on the team’s Facebook page stating that:
“JP Ferreira is currently in negotiations with Munster. His contract with the Lions Rugby Company expires in October 2018.”
With the departure of Rassie Erasmus and his defence coach Jacques Nienaber back to South Africa Munster are looking for a new defensive coach and with Ferreira’s contract drawing to a close, he could be in line for a move to the northern hemisphere.
Last week, Irish defence coach Andy Farrell was present at Munster training as Johann van Graan’s side enter a crucial European and interpro series of games over the festive period.
JP Ferreira has worked as both a performance analyst and defensive coach with the Golden Lions and was also briefly involved in the Springbok set up. In the video below, you can see Ferreira explain the new tackle and ruck laws with Victor Matfield.
