For the second consecutive year Adare are Limerick Senior Football champions. Since being relegated from the senior division in 2015, Adare have won three consecutive county titles after winning the Intermediate championship in their sole year in that grade.
After upsetting the odds against Newcastle in the final last year, Adare were very much favourites this time around against Ballylanders. However, a slow start coupled with Ballylanders accuracy in front of goal saw the champions head into the break 0-9 to 0-5 in arrears.
Six points on the trot after the half would prove to be the catalyst in the sides 1-13 to 0-12 victory with Jack McCarthy sealing the game with a goal in the final minutes. Centre-forward Hugh Bourke, acknowledged the urgency to up the tempo in the second half after a below par first half performance.
“The chat at half time was just urgency for that first ten minutes and set the tone for the rest of the game then. I suppose a few more breaks went our way and that set the tone for the second half.”
In his post match interview, manager Harry Gleeson acknowledged the role of the players at half time, praising his sides ability to adapt and overcome, something which was clearly evident in a classy second half where they outscored their opponents 1-8 to 0-3.
“We don’t have to go into the dressing room at half time and tell them where its gone wrong, they all recognise where its gone wrong and they are already trying to rectify this when we go into the dressing room because they are very adaptable”
