Despite the odds stacked against them, Munster made light work of Wasps in Coventry.
With no game in over 50 days, 34 players out due to covid and quarantine following the ill-fated trip to South Africa, five debutants in the starting XV and another seven on the bench, Muster had been set the most uphill of tasks in their European opener.
Undeterred, Munster went about their business and created an upset for the ages running out 35-14 bonus point win to put themselves in a good position ahead of next weekend’s game at home to Castres.
Fourteen man Wasps had the first try on the stroke of the half hour but a Keith Earls effort fiove minutes later was enough for a 13-7 half time lead.
On his debut, Patrick Campbell slalomed his way to the tryline shortly after the restart. Andrew Conway pounced on a Wasps error for Munster’s third before debutant Scott Buckley secured the bonus point.
Wasps had the final score but it was far too little too late for the English side as Munster put in a performance to remember.
