In his first training camp with Ireland, Jean Kleyn has looked to settle well as he attempts to make Joe Schmidt’s 31-man squad for this year’s Rugby World Cup.
As a newcomer to the side, Kleyn is focused on working day-to-day, not letting himself get carried away with the prospect of making his debut for Ireland.
“For me, it’s all about this week, today’s detail and that’s how I’m going to approach it, the best that I can.”
With the competition for places in the second-row very high, Kleyn has been focused on learning from his teammates in training.
Week by week the lock feels an improvement in his understanding but understands the quality ahead of him in the pecking order.
“They were obviously more nailed on about things but as I’ve said, it’s been a good 4 or 5 weeks of work so I think I’m getting up to a level of knowing where I am.”
“But there is a couple of really good locks and some really high competition.”
