WATCH: Limerick GAA’s tribute to the Murdered Mayors

On Sunday evening, Limerick GAA hosted an Evening of History in partnership with Limerick City and County Council to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the murdered mayors in Limerick.

Limerick’s All-Ireland success of 1921 was marred when the then sitting mayor George Clancy and former mayor Michael O’Callaghan were murdered by British Auxiliaries during the War of Independence.

To remember those, Limerick legend Mark Foley moderated the event with guests including, Professor Gearoid Ó Tuaithaigh, Dr Brian Murphy, Sharon Slater and Thomas Toomey.

Over the course of two hours, they would discuss the impact of the tragedy and the legacy left behind.

Afterwards, Limerick GAA secretary Mike O’Riordan revealed the new commemoration jersey which is on sale for a limited time on O’Neills.
