When it was announced that Munster had secured the services of Irish lock Tadgh Beirne, the news was met with great excitement around the province. Beirne almost single-handily beat Munster in the Aviva Stadium in the Pro 12 final in 2017 and brings an extra dimension to the Munster forward line.
Munster Rugby caught up with the new man to see how he has settled into his new surroundings. Beirne demonstrated his eagerness to get out on the pitch for the province and commented on the excellent facilities in the province’s base in UL.
“When I signed it was an exciting time and I’m really looking forward to getting out there and having my first game.”
“I haven’t seen anything like it at any other clubs so far. The gym is outstanding, the kitchen, everything is all just top quality.”
The Kildare native had to wait for his Irish debut until the summer as he was plying his trade overseas before his move to Munster. He says the experience was a positive one and also gave him the opportunity to meet some of his new teammates.
“It was a pretty special experience. When I went over with Ireland I got to meet a few of the (Munster) boys and it made it even easier coming in here on the first day and knowing the Irish boys.”
