WATCH | TUS MidWest overcome UL 4 in Yoplait Donaghy Cup final

After winning the Divison 5 Championship title last year, the Limerick college secured a second successive promotion on Wednesday evening.

TUS MidWest claimed the Yoplait Donaghy Cup title at UL 4’s expense on Wednesday evening to make it back-to-back third level triumphs. The Limerick college claimed the Lagan Cup in 2022 and added to that yesterday evening.

Limerick players Iris Kenneally, Aoife Corbett, Ella Whelan and Joanne Foley all started for TUS in the 3-12 to 0-14 win.

Despite leading for the majority of the contest, TUS were pegged back to within a point heading into the final ten minutes. But they outscored their opponents 1-3 to 0-0 down the stretch to secure victory.

Sally King delivered the final blow for TUS following another blistering run from Kenneally who was a constant thorn in the UL side.

Kenneally had the penultimate score of the game, her fourth of the half, that ensured victory in the Connacht Dome.

Chloe Towey had the games first goal in the seventh minute with Monagea’s Aoife Corbett supplying the assist after collecting a long delivery from county mate Joanne Foley. That made it level after UL4 had the first three points of the evening.

Corbett then turned finisher for TUS’s second goal, finding the corner of the net following a brilliant run by Kenneally that had them in the lead for the first time. Corbett then moved TUS double scores in front, 2-2 to 0-4. The Monagea native furthered her tally with another point in the 16th minute.

That was enough for a three-point, 2-5 to 0-8 lead at the interval.

UL moved within one of TUS with back-to-back scores after the restart but Kenneally got off the mark to double their advantage. Kenneally would once more prove equal to the UL contingent four minutes later with her third of the half pushing TUS 2-9 to 0-11 ahead with a quarter of an hour to play.

Three on the bounce from UL did make it a one-point game in the 52nd minute, but they wouldn’t score again as TUS powered to victory.
