Munster left France with a losing bonus point that keeps them still in charge of their own destiny but it could and should have been a different result had Wayne Barnes’ refereeing been up to scratch.
The Englishman informed Peter O’Mahony that the alleged eye gouge by Rory Kockott on Chris Cloete was an issue for the citing commissioner despite the fact that the incident happened in the build up to Castres try.
There was no intervention from the TMO and Barnes took no action nor did he ask for the TMO to take a look at the incident. Barnes noted O’Mahony’s allegation and referred it to the TMO.
It begs the question that if Barnes was noting the incident, why didn’t he ask for a TMO review there and then. All in all it made for a really frustrating night for Munster fans.
