“We’re more mature now and we’ve more experience” | Cappamore’s Marie Berkery on her side’s return to Senior Championship

Cappamore beat Monaleen in the replayed final of the 2021 Intermediate Championship to secure promotion.

Cappamore will make their return to the Senior Camogie Championship as they prepare for their opening fixture against Crecora Manister on Saturday evening.

The side were 0-7 to 0-5 winners against Monaleen in the replay of the Intermediate Championship Final last year which presented them with the opportunity to compete in the SCC once again.

They’ll be aiming to stay put in the highest rank of Limerick camogie for the foreseeable and Marie Berkery believes they have the tools to get it right this time around.

“We were probably a little young when we got promoted the last time, but we’re an older panel now, more mature, we’ve more experience and we’ve been training very hard together gearing towards the 20th of August so we should put in a good performance.”

The side are a quarter of a group consisting Ahane, Killeedy and Crecora Manister with Crecora being their opening day opponents and Berkery expects a tough game from the side.

“We’re expecting a tough battle. Obviously Crecora have been senior longer than us so they have that little bit of experience up there but we have trained hard all summer and we’re hoping that we can put it up to them.

“We did meet them a couple of times back in 2015 and 2016, so we’re fairly familiar with them but they are a good side so fingers crossed we can put in a performance in our first round.”
