Young Munster secure 1A semi-final berth despite Garryowen defeat | AIL Round-Up

With just one round of games remaining in the Men’s All Ireland League, some issues have been decided as Young Munster secured a top four spot.

Young Munster have qualified for the Division 1A semi-finals despite losing to Garryowen 28-22 at Dooradoyle, as Harry Fleming’s late try for “The Cookies” ensured them a losing bonus point which was all they needed to finish in fourth place. Bailey Faloon and Jack Lyons were Young Munster’s other try scorers. Conor Hayes replied with two conversions and a penalty. Dan Fitzgerald replied with two tries for Garryowen, and Jack Oliver and Tommy O’Hora got one each.

Shannon defeated Ballynahinch 26-10 but are still occupying the relegation play-off place three points behind UCD. Darragh McSweeney, Dan Hurley, Jordan Prenderville, and Aran Hehir scored tries for Shannon and Mike Cooke kicked three conversions

Cashel defeated UL Bohemian 33-19 in Division 2A in Annacotty but the result means Cashel cannot finish in the top four, while UL Bohemian will have to settle for a place in the relegation playoffs. Ben Murphy scored two tries for Cashel, Freddie Bergada and Sean O’Connell got one each, and they were also awarded a penalty try. Aidan McDonald kicked two conversions and Ryan O’Sullivan one.

Old Crescent were defeated by leaders Queens University 45-10 in Belfast. Cathal O’Reilly and Michael O’Hanrahan were the try scorers for Old Crescent.

Bruff are three points behind Clonmel in fifth after their 24-17 home defeat by Tullamore in 2C. Andy O’Brien and Shane Duggan scored tries for Bruff, Paul Collins converted both and also added a penalty.

There was no joy for the Munster sides in the Women’s All Ireland Series. Railway Union ended U.L. Bohemian’s unbeaten run with a 55-17 victory and Ballincollig lost 54-7 away to Old Belvedere.
