National & local cups take precedent in Limerick this weekend

FAI and Munster Junior Cup games are down for decision once again this weekend as well as a host of local cup and league games. The biggest attraction will be the meeting of Janesboro and Fairview Rangers at Pearse Stadium on Sunday morning (10.30).

With the likes of Barry Ryan, Paudie Quinn and Brian Murphy arriving at the Fairgreen this season, Jason Purcell’s side will fancy their chances at a run in the competition if they can overcome last year’s finalists. After being knocked out of the FAI Junior Cup at the hands of fellow local side Regional Utd, Aidan Ryan and Shane O’Hanlon will be hoping to avoid the same fate at their fortress in Janesboro.

There are four games taking place in the FAI Junior Cup on Sunday morning. All kick off times are 10.30 am. Division 1A Corbally United will take on premier division Geraldines at Atlunkard with a view to upsetting the Garryowen Green outfit.

Pike Rovers travel to high flying Mungret Regional in a bid to avoid a massive upset. With the squad at Mick Sheil’s disposal, it will be a severely tough ask for Mungret. However, Mungret have the meanest defence in 1A and will attempt to make it difficult. Table toppers Ballynanty will be odds on to continue their incredible 100% winning record when they welcome Cappamore Celtic to Limerick Institute of Technology.

The divisional cups take center stage this weekend with the Tuohy and O’Halloran Cups beginning. The Tuohy Cup is a competition which consists of the premier division sides and sees Aisling Annacotty host Charleville in Annacotty on Saturday evening (7pm). Usually, all Tuohy and O’Halloran Cup ties take place at Jackman Park but due to works continuing on the improvement of the Carey’s Road pitch, all first round ties will take place at the home team’s ground. All further rounds will take place at the home of Limerick junior soccer.

There are two O’Halloran Cup games scheduled for Sunday with Aisling Annacotty B facing Summerville (10.30), and Castle Rovers host Murroe (2pm). Both games will take place in Annacotty and Fedamore respectively.
