2022 End of Season Awards | Treaty Talk Special

It was an eventful year for Limerick GAA with plenty of success for the county sides as well as the clubs in the provincial series.

2022 would prove to be another stellar year in the Limerick GAA circles. The Hurlers became the first county from outside the big three to claim three Liam MacCarthy titles on the trot, earning a fourth in five years.

Billy Lee’s footballers secured a second promotion in three years whilst reaching a first Munster final in 12 years. On the club front, Na Piarsaigh returned to the pinnacle of Limerick hurling while Newcastle West were narrowly beaten in the Munster Club final.

Diarmaid Byrnes was named Hurler of the Year while Limerick had seven on the All-Star team. Cian Sheehan was only Limerick’s third football nominee this decade while the U20 hurlers reached the All-Ireland final.

Prior to the turn of the new year, Matt and Jack combined for their 2022 End of Year Awards where over the course of 100 minutes, they would go through eight different categories, giving out various intercounty, club hurling and club football awards in each.

The categories were as follows;

  • Match of the Year
  • Player of the Year
  • Young of the Year
  • Performance of the Year (Team)
  • Performance of the Year (Individual)
  • Score of the Year
  • Biggest Surprise of the Year
  • Team of the Year
