UL welcome UCC in titanic Fitzgibbon Cup quarter final

Pre-Season favourites UL and UCC meet in the Fitzgibbon Cup today in a highly anticipated Fitzgibbon Cup quarter final clash. UL are the sole Limerick college left after champions Mary I and LIT were both defeated last night.

UL will be hoping to retain the crown they last held in 2015. They have a strong Limerick contingent with a number of John Kiely’s senior squad at the colleges disposal.

Kyle Hayes and Barry Nash are still out injured with Mike Casey and Ronan Lynch unlikely to play a part with Na Piarsaigh playing in the All Ireland Semi Final this Saturday.

However, Sean Finn, Gearoid Hegarty, Barry Murphy among others key for the college. Also in the UL ranks are Clare’s Tony Kelly, Conor Cleary and David Fitzgerald. Tipp’s John McGrath and Jason Forde are also members of the star studded side.

As for UCC they come to Limerick as outsiders after finishing second in their group after falling to UCD in the opening round.

However, the Cork side have a number of inter-county players at their disposal as well and will be confident of causing a shock in UL.

Michael Breen is the star name of the side, that is littered with Cork seniors such as Robbie O’Flynn and Mark Coleman.

These sides were both defeated by IT Carlow in the competition last year and will be hoping to avenge those losses with the Leinster college safely through to the last 4.
