LISTEN – Post match reaction as UL claim third Ashbourne title in a row

The UL senior camogie team were crowned Ashbourne Cup winners for the third year in a row following a three point win over UCC in Mallow last night.

Having eased past WIT in the semi-final, UL faced a much tougher task in their Munster counterparts, a goal from Katrina Mackey giving UCC a deserved one-point lead at half time.

However the reigning champions found their stride early in the second half with points from Beth Carton, Niamh Hanniffy and Orla O’Dwyer keeping UCC at bay.

With five minutes to go, UCC went on the hunt for a goal but superb goalkeeping skills from Roisin Breen denied their chance and the UL defence, led by captain Eimear Kelly, ensured the UL victory.

In her speech Kelly, who was named player of the game, praised UCC for their tenacious efforts and credited the UL victory to the “professional” set-up within the club.
