LISTEN: Gary Kirby’s post match reaction to UL’s Fitzgibbon win

UL manager Gary Kirby has praised his side for their resilience in overcoming DCU in the Fitzgibbon Cup final last Saturday in Mallow.

The 2015 winners went into the game as firm favourites with a wealth of inter county stars at their disposal but found DCU very hard to break down, with only a two point lead at half time.

The Patrickswell native said he expected nothing less from the Dublin side, who were contending their first ever Fitzgibbon Cup final.

“All the talk was about us but DCU did put it up to us and I think we withheld the onslaught in the first half and pulled away in the second half”.

It was Kirby’s first year in charge of the senior hurling panel having previously managed the Fresher team to an All Ireland victory three years ago, many of whom featured in the final on Saturday.
