Kilmallock continue Group 1 domination while Group 2 is all tied up

Limerick SHC Round 4 Review

With a full round of fixtures over the weekend, the picture in the Limerick Senior Hurling Championship looks somewhat looks clearer with Kilmallock retaining their perfect record and earning a semi final spot in group 1. Meanwhile in Group 2, Adare’s win over Na Piarsaigh means that three teams lie level at the top heading into the final set of fixtures.

Group 1

Kilmallock booked their place in the semi finals with their fourth win this year and are the only team in the competition with a 100% record heading into the final round of games. They overcame Ahane on Sunday evening by 0-23 to 1-14 to clinch their last four berth. Limerick U21 captain Tom Morrissey was the goalscorer for Ahane who will need a huge swing in the final set of games to enter into the knockout stages.

Ballybrown were the big winners in the group as they comprehensively beat South Liberties 4-21 to 0-15 to go two points ahead of Ahane in third place and look to have sealed a quarter final spot. The East side on the other hand cannot qualify now but look to have secured safety with Bruff below them facing Kilmallock in the final game.

Doon wrapped up a last eight spot with a 2-21 to 0-11 victory over Bruff on Saturday night in Caherconlish. Doon are one point ahead of Ballybrown and will be keen to finish with a win against them. Bruff on the other hand know that anything other than a win against table toppers Kilmallock will mean a relegation play off.

Group 2

Group 2 was blown wide open this weekend with Adare’s defeat of Na Piarsaigh in Askeaton. The 3-17 to 2-19 win means that Adare join the Caherdavin on six points with one game remaining. Adare fresh off their League win were value for their win in a thrilling encounter. Adare play Monaleen in their final game whilst Na Piarsaigh take on Knockainey.

Patrickswell joined these sides on six points at the top of the table as they were comfortable winners over Monaleen on Sunday in the Gaelic Grounds. The Well lie in second, nine points in arrears of Nap in points differential. Last up for the Well are Cappamore. Monaleen are not safe yet but would need both Cappamore and Knockainey to win their final games.

In a potential relegation decider, Cappamore got a crucial victory over Knockainey in a tight tense affair, winning 0-15 to 0-13. Cappamore know that if they can match or better Knockainey’s result against Na Piarsaigh that they will be safe. Knockainey know a loss to Na Piarsaigh will mean they enter into a relegation play off.
