Brian Donovan named on GAA Team of the Week after goalscoring exploits in Longford win

The Monaleen native is named in the maiden team of the year.

Limerick’s Brian Donovan has been named in the half forward line of the GAA.ie Football Team of the Week after bagging a brace of goals in Limericks win over Longford on Saturday evening.

Donovan’s pair of goals came within five minutes of each other as Limerick led by 3-5 to 0-7 at the interval.

Donovan, pounced on a loose ball for his first, rounding the keeper before firing into the net. His second also saw him going around the goalie after he was set free by a delightful Hugh Bourke pass.

Limerick’s 4-9 to 1-11 win puts them in good stead ahead of Saturday’s trip to Belfast to take on Antrim, who were winners against Fermanagh at the weekend.

Donovan is one of three Division 3 players to be selected, alongside Westmeath’s Sam McCartan and Laois’ Gary Walsh.

In total, 13 counties are represented with Armagh having a pair of players following their Croke Park win over Dublin, as do Mayo who drew with Donegal.
