Limerick to host Clare in Munster Senior Football Championship semi-final

The Banner sealed their place in the last four with a one-point victory over Cork at the weekend, avenging the league defeat from March.

Limerick will have home advantage in just under a fortnight’s time when they welcome Clare in the Munster Senior Football Championship semi-final.

The TUS Gaelic Grounds will host the clash on April 22 with throw in at 7pm on the Ennis Road. Limerick will be seeking a second successive final berth after falling to Kerry in a first final in twelve years last time out. Clare haven’t reached the decider since 2012 when they were beaten by Cork in the Gaelic Grounds.

The Banner sealed their place in the last four with a one-point victory over Cork at the weekend, avenging the league defeat from March. It will ensure that one of Limerick and Clare will feature in the All-Ireland Championship after both were relegated from Division 2 last month. The loser will fall into the Tailteann Cup.

The game will also be a repeat of last year’s quarter-final where Limerick won the first ever All-Ireland Senior Football Championship penalty shoot out in Ennis. That was also Limerick’s first victory over the Banner since 2012, losing on five successive occasions in between.

In the previous Munster championship meeting in the TUS Gaelic Grounds, Clare were comfortable 1-23 to 0-14 winners in the provincial quarter-final in 2018. Clare were also impressive in dispatching Limerick in the final round of this year’s league.

The prize for the winner will be a Munster final berth on May 7 with defending Munster and All-Ireland champions Kerry meeting Tipperary in the other semi-final.
