Relive the 2014 MHC final between Limerick and Kilkenny ahead of 21s clash.
The countdown to this Saturday’s U21 All Ireland Hurling Championship is well and truly on. Limerick and Kilkenny face off in Thurles in the showpiece event which throws in at 3pm. Limerick’s last triumph at this grade came in 2015 and the 2017 side is backboned by these players. Kilkenny on the other hand haven’t been as successful in recent years with their last U21 title coming way back in 2008.
These sides will know each other well after contesting the 2014 minor final. Limerick came into the game as heavy favourites after winning back-to back Munster championships. Kilkenny came in under the radar but akin to their senior side Kilkenny went for the jugular and scored two goals which would ultimately be the difference between the teams.
Incredibly, from the starting Limerick XV that played against Galway in the U21 semi final last month, ten of those players started the minor final three years ago. This group of players have been together now for a number of years and will have learned from the 2014 decider. Kilkenny also have a number of starters from their minor side available.
