Limerick SHC quarter final pairings revealed with repeat of 2016 decider

It is the first set of games to be played in the TUS Gaelic Grounds since the epic Munster final in June with the opening tie at 2pm with the second at 4pm.

The quarter final pairings in the Limerick Senior Hurling Championship have been confirmed with two intriguing games set for the TUS Gaelic Grounds this Sunday.

The first sees Doon take on Mungret St Pauls, who were promoted at the weekend, with the second a repeat of the 2016 final where neighbours Patrickswell and Ballybrown meet.

Doon will be seeking a place in the semi-finals of the SHC for the eighth successive year, last failing to reach the stage in 2015. Despite a pair of heavy defeats in this year’s group stage to Kilmallock and Na Piarsaigh, Fergie O’Loughlin’s men finished third.

Mungret St Pauls on the other hand are competing in a first quarter final in over 40 years. After winning promotion to group one of the SHC for next year on Sunday, these sides will meet in the group stages in 2024.

The prize for the winner will be a semi-final date with Na Piarsaigh.

The second semi-final pits neighbours Patrickswell against Ballybrown at 4pm. These teams haven’t met since 2018 when Patrickswell ran out five point winners. The ‘Well are looking for a place in the last four after their lengthy run of appearing at that stage fell last year. They were shocked in the 2022 quarters by South Liberties, ending their monopoly on the last four alongside Doon, Na Piarsaigh and Kilmallock.

Ballybrown haven’t been to the semi-finals since 2016, the year they contested the final against their neighbours. In that year, they overcame Ahane in the quarters after a replay.

Kilmallock await the victors of this quarter final.
