Limerick’s Senior Camogie side fell to a disappointing 18-point reverse at the hands of Kilkenny in the Glen Dimplex All Ireland Senior Camogie Championship. While there is still four further games in the group phase, the manner of the defeat will concern the team.
There was a red card shown to Caoimhe Costelloe in the third-third quarter, which compounded the earlier injury to Dearbhla Egan – who was stretchered off with a suspected dislocated collar bone. The Crecora star only lasted nine minutes before she suffered the injury.
Limerick didn’t score from play over the hour, with a brace of frees from Costelloe in the first half added to by a pair from Rebecca Delee. Kilkenny held all the aces in attack. There was a debut for Poppy Giltenane for the Treaty, and her directness had earned one of those frees.
By the time the half-time whistle sounded, it was 0-10 to 0-2 with Katie Nolan, Aoife Prendergast aand Miriam Bambrick all on target for the visitors.
They swelled the margin further and when Steffi Fitzgerld drilled home a goal, the result was confirmed. Kilkenny dominated in all sectors leaving Joe Quaid with plenty of food for thought ahead of round two.
