The Patrickswell men also became Limerick’s record scorer over the weekend.
Aaron Gillane has been named the GAA.ie Hurler of the Week following his exploits against Galway in the All-Ireland semi-final on Sunday afternoon.
Gillane bagged 0-8, six of those coming from play in a stellar effort as Limerick outlasted a dogged Tribesmen outfit.
In doing so, Gillane also etched his name into the record books as Limerick’s top scorer in championship history.
Picking up 5,383 votes, he beat out Galway’s Cathal Mannion (4,116) and Kilkenny’s Adrian Mullen (3,756).
“The main man for Limerick in their All-Ireland SHC semi-final win over Galway. Started the match on fire with three outstanding points in a row and finished with a personal tally of six points from play and two frees.”
Gillane was named on the GAA.ie Team of the Week subsequently, his fourth time this year as he moves into the All-Ireland final as a front runner for Hurler of the Year.
It is also the second time he has been named as Hurler of the Week, following on from his round two display against Waterford where he bagged 0-13.
He is currently seventh in the scoring charts for the 2022 championship but has the third highest scoring average (9.8 ppg), behind Killian Doyle (11.6) and Donal Burke (11.8).
The Patrickswell man will have one more game to add to his tally of awards this season as he prepares for a fourth All-Ireland final in five years as Limerick take on Kilkenny on Sunday 17 July in Croke Park.
