Big wins for Ballybrown, Mungret St Pauls and Adare in Limerick SHC first round

Mungret St Pauls top the group after round one as they had 18-points to spare against last year’s semi finalists.

There was no disputing any of the winners in group two of the Limerick SHC as Balybrown, Mungret St Pauls and Adare all got off the mark impressively.

Ballybrown were 2-21 to 0-14 winners over Monaleen, Mungret St Pauls secured a 4-19 to 0-13 victory over South Liberties while Adare beat Garryspillane 4-11 to 1-11.

Mungret St Pauls top the group after round one as they had 18-points to spare against last year’s semi finalists. In their second year in the grade, the City side had the only goal of the first half through Niall Mulcahy as they led 1-13 to 0-4. Second half green flags were raised by Barry Duff (2) and Brennan Giltenane as they started their campaign with a bang.

Ballybrown also had a comfortable night with a 13-point margin of victory over last year’s intermediate All-Ireland champions Monaleen in the Bog Garden. Barry Adams netted with the first goal as they took a 1-8 to 0-5 lead into the interval. All-Ireland winner Aidan O’Connor got their second and they didn’t look back to secure the two points.

Adare sealed their return to group two with a goal laden win over Garryspillane. The West side also found the net with the first score of the game that helped them into a 2-4 to 0-6 lead at the interval, Willie Griffin and Mikey Mackey netting. Griffin’s second gave them daylight but Callum Sheehan hit back for the Bouncers. Mackey rounded out the goalscoring which was the difference in the end.

Elsewhere, Patrickswell overcame the challenge of Na Piarsaigh with Aaron Gillane instrumental in the result with a classy second half goal proving vital at the finish.
