David Clifford inspired UL move into Sigerson semi-finals after defeating Queens

UL took defeated Queens University in the highly anticipated Sigerson Cup match.

UL Booked their place in the last four of the Sigerson Cup with a 2-12 to 0-13 win over Queen’s University Belfast in Abbotstown last night.

David Clifford, as he was in the semi-final, was the star of the show, clipping over 2-4 to help the college into the semi-finals next week.

in a low scoring first half, UL hit the first score before QUB replied with a brace. Clifford was on hand to regaiin the lead with his first goal of the game after 13 minutes.

But the Ulster side were dogged in response and took a slender lead into the half. The sides exchanged scores after the restart before UL pulled away, grabbing 1-5 without response from the 36th minute to the 52nd to move 2-11 to 0-9 clear.

Queen’s had three on the bounce to reduce the deficit to five but by then the resut wasn’t in doubt as UL march into the semi-finals.

They will face DCU in the last four clash after the draw was made on Thursday morning.

Defending champions DCU were made to work in their quarter-final as they outgunned UUJ 2-12 to 2-11 on the same evening as UL advanced.

NUIG and MTU Kerry will meet in the other semi-final tie.

Both games will be streamed live.
