Celtics make it two from two but disappointing weekend elsewhere for Limerick sides in round two of the National Basketball Leagues

The Limerick Celtics Men’s team were the only side to get a win on the board last weekend.

Round two of the Men and Women’s Division One campaigns took place over the weekend with contrasting results compared to the first round for the four Limerick sides

The Limerick Celtic’s Men’s team were the only side to build on their opening day victory as they saw out a 99-80 home win over SETU Carlow. Joshua Reynolds was responsible for 36 of the sides points as they move into third place.

Meanwhile, the Limerick Sport Eagles lost out narrowly to Moy Tolka Rovers, with the game ending 78-73 in a contest that could’ve went either way. The result leaves the Sport Eagles in seventh place while their opponents sit in fourth with two wins from two.

Elsewhere in the league, Malahide, Scotts Lakers SPK, Ulster University, Dwyers of Cork Fr. Matthews and Drogheda Wolves also secured second round wins.

It was an unsuccessful weekend to say the last for both Limerick sides in the Women’s Division One.

The Limerick Celtic’s Women were unable to build on their opening round win as they were defeated 78-73 at the hands of St. Pauls Killarney. Their Limerick counterparts, the Sport Huskies were on the losing side for the second consecutive week with a 78-53 defeat to Oblate Dynamos for their first win with the side only joining the National League this season.

McEvoy’s Cavan Eagles, Moy Tolka Rovers, Griffith College Templeogue and Portlaoise Panthers were the remaining teams to be on the winning side last weekend.

The action continues this weekend with the Limerick Celtics Men’s looking to make it three from three as they face Killarney Cougars while the Limerick Sport Eagles will be hoping to get back on winning terms when they face SETU Waterford Vikings, who are yet to win this season.

In the Women’s Division One third round, Limerick Sport Huskies will be on the hunt for their first win as they travel to SETU Carlow while the Limerick Celtics host the Marble City Hawks at Crescent College.
