“Everyone is stone mad for hurling, it’s great” | Micheal Houlihan as Kilmallock reach Munster

Kilmallock will play Ballygunner in the munster final in January after easing past Midelton over the weekend.

In the end the margin was seven as Kilmallock eased past Midleton and into the Munster Senior Club hurling final with an awesome TUS Gaelic Grounds display over the weekend.

Tony Considine’s men led from start to finish , leading by as many as ten during the contest.

Micheal Houlihan, as he was in the county championship, top scored for the Balbec, notching 0-12 in a brilliant display.

“It’s unreal really, hard to describe. We didn’t know what we would be like coming out of the blocks after seven weeks off. A lot of people were saying it. But I’m delighted, we came out flying. I knew training was going well and having the likes of Paddy back, Phelim O’Reilly back from America definitely contributed to training, it was fierce intense and it definitely stood to us.”

Kilmallock’s reward for the seven point victory is a Munster final clash with Ballygunner on January 8/9 with a surreal Christmas ahead for the squad who will be prepping for a first provincial final in seven years.

But for Houlihan, the boost that his side have given the town is a huge “boost” with the Balbec faithful delighted with their progress as they look for a fourth Munster title.

“It’s fantastic, the boost it gives to the town. Even with the family at home, there’s a great kick around. Even the father’s pub at home, its all hurling hurling hurling, everyone is stone mad for it and it’s great.”
