Flanagan fires Castlemahon to Munster Junior Club Football Semi-Final

The All-Star was in fine form with the big ball in Coolyroe this afternoon as he expertly switched codes.

Seamus Flanagan’s goal proved the difference as Castlemahon saw off a dogged Shamrocks side in the Munster Junior Club semi-final in Coolyroe.

It finished 1-18 to 2-12 in the hosts favour after an enthralling game of football where sweepers were nowhere to be seen.

Flanagan contributed 1-5 to their total with his second half goal the telling score of the afternoon. Indeed, it kickstarted a period of Castlemahon dominance as they overturned a four-point deficit into a five-point lead.

Shamrocks had the first score of the day from Kieran Crawford before Edward Lonergan’s goal helped them into a 1-5 to 0-2 advanatge with just eleven minutes on the clock.

Alan Roche, who finished with 0-8, kicked his first on 13 minutes and two more from the powerful midfielder had Castlemahon within two with ten to play in the first period.

Shamrocks replied with three on the bounce before a pair of Flanagan frees had it 1-8 to 0-8 at the turn of ends.

The Waterford outfit began the second as they did the first with Crawford finding the target. But 1-6 without reply followed, Flanagan bagging 1-2, Roche with three while John Francis Reidy grabbed his second of the afternoon.

That had the Limerick champions 1-14 to 1-9 to the good with a quarter of an hour to play.

Shamrocks had to wait until the first minute of injury time to find an elusive goal but it proved too little too late as substitute Jack Condon was on hand to add the insurance score with the final play of the game.

Castlemahon will now host Fossa who beat Listry in the Kerry Junior final today. The Clifford led side will travel to Coolyroe on November 26.
