Footballers start League campaign with a victory over London

Billy Lee’s Limerick senior football team got off to a winning start in Division 4 of the Allianz Football League by beating London 0-11 to 0-10 in Ruislip.

The sides were level at 0-5 apiece at the break but Limerick forged ahead to lead by four points 16 minutes into the second half.

London fought back to within a point in the final stages but Limerick held on for a morale boosting victory.

The home side raced into a three point lead inside 14 minutes but Limerick outscored them four points to one to see the game all square at half time.

Sean McSweeney started the scoring in the second half for Limerick and then two Peter Nash points and another from McSweeney put Lee’s men four points to the good.

Seamus O’Carroll saw Limerick into a three point lead late on but two London points ensured a nervy finish. However, Limerick held on for a vital opening day win.
