Limerick’s opening outing of 2023 didn’t go exactly to play as Pat Ryan’s Cork stole victory at the death.
Cork snatched victory at Limerick’s expense in an exciting Munster Hurling League opener in Pairc Ui Rinn on Sunday afternoon. Over 4,500 traveled to the Leeside venue to witness an absorbing encounter that finished 0-20 to 1-16 in Cork’s favour.
Limerick substitute, and debutant, Conor O’Grady looked to have sealed victory in injury time but Cork found scores from Conor Lehane and Brian Hayes to advance to Sunday’s final.
Lehane finished with 0-12 and was a constant threat as he gave the Rebels the half time lead after Limerick drew level midway through the half.
Darragh O’Donovan’s long delivery found its way to the Cork net to make it 0-5 to 1-2 after Cork had hit four of the first five scores of the afternoon.
But Limerick quickly erased their half-time deficit with five successive scores pulling them clear in the second period.
David Reidy had Limerick 0-14 to 1-15 ahead but Cork had six of the last seven scores to overturn the deficit and dethrone the Shannonsiders.
Limerick play Kerry this Sunday in their final group game of the Munster Hurling League while Cork meet Tipperary in the final on the same afternoon.
