UL seek Sigerson Cup quarter-final spot against TU Dublin

The Limerick University are yet to win the title but reached last year’s decider where they were beaten by NUIG.

The University of Limerick host TU Dublin in their second round Sigerson Cup clash this evening in UL with throw-in at 7pm.

The Limerick outfit will book their quarter-final spot if they are successful against the Dublin college. Similarly, TUD will move into the last eight with a win as both sides were victorious in their opening game.

UL were impressive 2-7 to 0-10 winners over UCC in the Mardyk in their opener where Paul Walsh and Paul Mathews hit the back of the net.

Their opponents this evening had a comfortable 1-13 to 0-9 win over ATU Galway in their first round clash last Wednesday evening. All but one of the Wednesday night games will see first-round winners square off. ATU Sligo, St Mary’s, DCU, UCD, NUIG, Queens can also book a quarter-final berth with a win.

Each of the other games will see the losers eliminated. If UL were to lose, they would play one of Mayonooth, MTU Cork, MTU Kerry, ATU Galway, UCC, SETU Carlow, UUJ or ATU Donegal in the third round.

UL are still seeking a first ever title after losing to NUIG in the decider last Spring. That was only their second ever final appearance with Conor Flaherty, Jack Coyne, Eoghan McLoughlin, Connell Dempsey, Daniel Walsh and Ciaran Downes all remaining from the starting team in that defeat.
