“His record is very impressive” | Matt O’Callaghan on Jimmy Lee’s Limerick appointment

Lee is currently in charge of the Newcastle West who are aiming for a third Limerick SFC in a row this year under his guidance.

Current Newcastle West Senior Football manager Jimmy Lee is set to be announced as the new Limerick Senior Football manager, in a move that is sure to excite the Treaty faithful.

Lee is currently in charge of the Newcastle West Senior Footballers, who are aiming for a third Limerick SFC in a row this year under his guidance.

So far the West Limerick side are four from four in the championship and have reached a new level under Lee, last year making the Munster decider after retaining their county title for the first time ever.

Speaking on the latest episode of Treaty Talk, Jack Neville and Matt O’Callaghan voiced their delight with the appointment of the Newcastle West man, who brings tremendous pedigree with him.

“Jimmy is a very good fit for the job, Jimmy has been part of the Limerick setup in the past with his brother Billy, we saw what that led to. A transition from Division 4 to Division 2 under their watch, his record is very impressive.

“Newcastle West are seeking a third in a row this year, and Jimmy has been the manager for the last two years. He has managed very successfully to juggle between the Newcastle West senior football team and their premier intermediate hurling team, who got to the semi-final of the county championship last year. That speaks volumes for the type of man we’re talking about, he obviously has that capacity to get the best out of people.”

Besides his experience, that ability to juggle between teams and still find success may be Lee’s most important trait when he takes the reigns.

While he will be in charge of just one side, it will be a large, competitive panel at his disposal, and he will need everyone pulling the same direction.

Lee’s familiarity with the Limerick championship and its players will mean he comes into the role with a huge understanding of his squad.

“Jimmy has seen a lot of teams up close and personal over his career, that’s a huge advantage. He’s a gentleman if you ever met one, if the hammer needs to be hammered he’s the one to tell the boys what needs to be done, it’s an exciting appointment!”

Jack Neville

Based on what we have seen of him over the years, Lee definitely seems as though he possesses all the right characteristics to have a successful spell in charge of the county side.
