JP McManus’ substantial donation to go straight to grassroots clubs

The money from the billionaire racehorse owner will be distributed equally among GAA, Ladies Gaelic Football Association and Camogie organisations.

Limerick’s JP McManus has made an astonishing €32 million donation to the GAA, LGFA, and Camogie Associations, with each county board gifted €1 million, which is set to be shared directly to the grassroot clubs.

The act of generosity means that thousands of Gaelic games clubs around Ireland will receive sums between €2,660 and over €30,000, depending on the number of clubs in the county.

Sligo clubs look like they will receive the most money – some over €30,000 – as the county has the fewest clubs, while Cork has the most, and as such each will receive €2,660.

The money from the billionaire racehorse owner will be distributed equally among GAA, Ladies Gaelic Football Association and Camogie organisations, and the GAA has expressed it’s gratitude towards McManus.

Speaking after the news of the donation broke, Uachtarán CLG Larry McCarthy and Ard Stiúrthóir CLG Tom Ryan marvelled at “yet another remarkable gesture of support” and said that “our units will once again rejoice in the generosity of the McManus family.”

“We would like to place on record our sincere gratitude to JP McManus and his family for yet another remarkable gesture of support.

Clubs across the island benefitted greatly from the generosity of JP and his family in 2018, and we know that the funds were put to very good use at the time.

His support of the GAA at many levels is well documented and our units will once again rejoice in the generosity of the McManus family and use the funds to assist in their hugely important work at the heart of communities.”

McManus previously donated €100,000 to each county board in 2018, and his support to Gaelic Games has been immense.

He is the current sponsor of the Limerick hurlers, who have been absolutely dominant in recent years, and are aiming for a historic fifth successive Liam MacCarthy in 2024.
