Limerick Camogie Round-up – Results and Upcoming Fixtures

It was a busy weekend for Limerick Camogie with the senior, junior and U16 sides all in action. There were mixed results for the adult teams on Saturday while the U16s had a big win the following day.

Recap both those games and look ahead to all the upcoming club games below.

Munster Camogie Senior Championship – Preliminary Round

Limerick 2-11 Clare 1-09

The Munster Senior Championship preliminary round took place in Clarina on Saturday between Limerick and Clare with the Treaty side coming out deserved winners following a highly impressive performance.

The game provided some exciting moments, as early on, it looked like Limerick would win comfortably only for Clare to pull back into it and make it a tight encounter.

Two goals in the first half gave Pat Ryans Ladies a strong lead at the half time break leading 2-7 to 1-5.

Following an early goal from the Banner, the Limerick side soon responded with Limericks Megan O’Mara who delivered a fine pass to Áine Cunningham who took her chance to score and level the score – Limerick’s finishing on the day proved to be the major difference between the two sides.

The five-point half time lead was a result of some clinical finishing and patient build up play. Goalkeeper Laura O’Neill was called on to make a brilliant stop at the beginning of the second half. Costelloe who had a brilliant performance put over another point soon after from a free quickly followed by another point.

A huge turning point in the game from Clares perspective will be the missed penalty that would have seen them get right back into contention. However, the shot was put wide and Clare were left to rue their missed chances.

Limerick were solid at the back and remained calm under pressure for the remainder of the game, earning an important victory with it finishing 2-11 to 1-9 for Pat Ryans side. The win will see Limerick take on Waterford in semi-final action next Saturday at 7.15pm.

Cork and Tipperary face off on the same night on the other side of the draw.

Munster Camogie Senior Championship – Preliminary Round

Limerick 1-6 Kerry 0-16

Limerick Junior Camogie side to face Kerry

Pat Ryan’s Limerick junior camogie team lost out to a strong Kerry side on a scoreline of 0-16 to 1-6 on Saturday evening.

In fine conditions for the Munster preliminary round at Fedamore GAA, the game got off to a lively start with both teams scoring early on to leave the scores level at two-a-piece after ten minutes.

After the first water break, Enya Harrington made the most of a sniff at goal with a fine effort to hit the back of the net for Limerick.

Na Piarsaigh’s Harrington went on to add to her talesly with one of her many fine frees before half-time to leave Limerick ahead by three at the interval.

Patrice Diggins of Kerry started the second half on the front foot with a pointed free to keep Kerry within touching distance.

Murgret’s Ailbhe Larkin restored the Limerick lead shortly after but the lead was short lived as Kerry upped the ante in the second half.

There were a few lapses in the Limerick defence that allowed Diggins to take full advantage of the free opportunities as she went on to score five unanswered points to leave Kerry ahead by two at the water break in the second half.

Limerick came out fighting with two scores from Steph Woulfe, only to be matched by Kerry once again.

The Kingdom had free rein on the game for the rest, with just the defence resolute and Diggins scoring for fun.

A valiant effort from the Limerick junior team but Kerry made most of their chances to progress to the next round.
