Limerick Desmond reach U14 Inter-League final with NEC victory

There was delight for Limerick Desmond Boys U14 on Sunday afternoon, as they qualified for a national U14 final. Meanwhile, the League’s U14 girls were narrowly beaten in their Shield semi-final.

Boys U14
Limerick Desmond League 3-2 NEC League
There was a superb Desmond League performance to qualify for the SFAI Boys Cup final, edging out NEC (North Eastern Counties), 3-2 in Killeaney. The home advantage paid dividends who raced into a 2-0 lead after just eight minutes. Eamon O’Sullivan of Shountrade and Seán O’Flynn from Broadford United on target.

NEC did reply, but a goal early in the second half from Dromore United’s Brooklyn Delahunty saw Niall O’Connor’s side in a strong position. They did concede a second late on to another strike to the Leinster side but were comfortable in sealing the victory.

The opposition in the final will be Kerry. This is the Kennedy Cup age-group and this will give the west Limerick league great confidence heading into that tournament.

U14 Girls
Limerick Desmond 2-3 Kilkenny League
There was disappointment for the U14 girls who lost out in Ballingarry in their SFAI Interleague Girls U14 Shield semi-final. This game was 2-2 late on with Limerick Desmond. But the visitors pounced for the winner, just minutes after Limerick had a goal disallowed for offside.
