Limerick get first All Star Football Nomination in ten years as Iain Corbett is chosen among nominees

Limerick joint captain Iain Corbett has become the first footballer from the county to earn an All Star nomination since John Galvin in 2010.

The Newcastle West man is one of 45 chosen after a string of brilliant displays in 2020 that saw Limerick pick up League and McGrath cup silverware as well as reaching the Muster semi-final.

“Iain Corbett’s eye-catching exploits for Limerick in their league and championship displays in 2020 is honoured with an inclusion among the 18 top defenders – a nomination for the Treaty footballers for the first time since John Galvin in 2010.”

Corbett was a mainstay of the GAA Football team of the Week throughout the year and was excellent either side of the lockdown as Limerick were just pipped by eventual Munster champions Tipperary in a nailbiting semi-final affair that went extra time.

The nomination is richly deserved by Corbett who has been exceptional for Limerick since he burst onto the scene in 2012 with a number of exceptional performances in the green of Limerick, notably in helping the Shannonsiders to a first Munster win in seven years over Tipp in 2019 and a catalogue of displays in 2020.

Limerick manager Billy Lee was one of the first to congratulate his captain with a number following suit on Twitter.

The awards are scheduled to be broadcast in late February with the All Star nominations in hurling to be revealed tomorrow.
