It wasn’t a vintage year for the Limerick SFC but Fr Casey’s shock win over Adare in the group stage is our game of 2020. The Abbeyfeale side turned in a stunning second half showing to earn a 0-17 to 0-12 victory.
Many believed that the result would finally push Fr Casey’s towards senior success for the first time since 2006 but they fell at the quarter final stage to Ballysteen. Adare went on to win their third SFC title in four years.
The sides were level after at 0-2 apiece after an entertaining opening 10 minutes but it was Adare that forged a lead as the first half came to a close (0-6 to 0-3).
However, points from Cormac Roche and Adrian Enright ensured that just a solitary point separated the side’s at half time.
Adare had the better of the game in the opening stages of the second half and went four clear before Enright settled Fr Casey’s with their first score since the break.
The eventual champions of the SFC led 0-11 to 0-9 as the game entered the final 10 minutes. Rory O’Brien put one between the teams yet again before a Dylan Quirke free and John Lane then put Fr Casey’s in front for the first time.
From here, Casey’s dominated with Enright to the fore. The Limerick county player kicked two further points as they raced to a five-point victory.
Adare recovered from this defeat to earn victories over Newcastle West in the quarter final, Galbally in the semi final before blitzing Ballylanders on a 4-7 to 0-4 scoreline in the SFC Final.
