Limerick SHC Round Up

With a full round of fixtures played out over the weekend in the Limerick Senior Hurling Championship, there are no longer any sides that hold a 100\% record. The early pace setters, Na Piarsaigh and Kilmallock played out an entertaining draw on Saturday night, with the race for knockout spaces in the heating up.

There were 9 of Limerick’s All Ireland winning panel involved in the game in the Gaelic Grounds with a late Shane Dowling free earning a 0-21 to 2-15 draw for the reigning county champions in what was a repeat of last years county final. Oisin O’Reilly and Robbie Egan had goals for the Balbec but Dowling’s 10th point of the evening was enough to secure a share of the spoils for Na Piarsaigh.

Elsewhere in Group 2, Doon and Adare also played out a draw on Saturday evening. Adare’s Brendan O’Connor had the opening goal of the game for Adare with Doon’s Darragh Stapleton replying with a goal of his own to leave the half time score 1-7 to 1-6 in favour of Doon. Adare’s John Fitzgibbon would have the final say with a late point to leave the score’s deadlocked at 1-13 apiece at the final whistle.

In the other game in Group 1, Patrickswell overcame their neighbours Ballybrown in Claughaun on Friday night. In a repeat of the 2016 final, the ‘Well had the games first goal, courtesy of Peter Harty which was cancelled out by a brilliant solo effort from Bryan Griffin to leave the scores at 1-9 to 1-6 at the break with the ‘Well holding the slender advantage. Patrickswell would never look like surrendering their advantage in the second half and despite a late Alan O’Connor goal, would run out winners on a scoreline of 1-20 to 2-12.

South Liberties were the only other side to enter the round with two wins from two but were well beaten by Monaleen on Saturday evening. Despite Barry Nash’s best efforts with seven points from play, Daniel Power would score the only goal of the game for Monaleen as they eased to a 1-17 to 0-14 victory.

Also in Group 2, Ahane had an impressive 0-19 to 1-9 win over Knockainey on Friday evening. The All Ireland winning Morrissey brothers, Dan and Tom would combine for 0-11 of their tally as they picked up their second win of the campaign.

Elsewhere in Group 2, Murroe Boher picked up a well deserved 2-20 to 1-10 win over Cappamore on Friday to earn a second consecutive win on their return to the senior ranks.
