Limerick’s Best Hurling Game of the 21st Century: Quarter-Final #3

Earlier this week we asked the Limerick public to tell us what their favourite Limerick games of the past 20 years were.

From the list of games we were told we compiled a list of the Top 16 which will battle it out to be crowned the counties favourite game this century.

Our Top 16 Bracket was released on Saturday and can be seen here.

Over the last four days we had our eight Last-16 ties with the winners of those found here.

Now we will look at the quarter finals!

Our Third Quarter Final pits the 2018 All-Ireland final win over Galway against the Munster final win against Cork five years previously.

While the 2018 All-Ireland Final may seem like the obvious choice, the importance of the 2013 Munster Final can not go unnoticed.

Limerick came into the 2013 season having had just one Munster championship win in the previous twelve seasons.

John Allen’s side were written off coming into the Munster semi-final against Tipp and were thought off similarly welcoming Cork to the Gaelic Grounds for the Provincial final.

The manner of the victory was sweet for those who had waited seventeen years for a Munster championship which was made sweeter by the fact that it took place in Limerick’s home.

On the other side, a 45-year wait to land the All-Ireland does take some beating.
