PREVIEW | Ardscoil Rís seek third Dean Ryan Cup triumph as they face Thurles CBS

The Limerick school will be bidding for their first Dean Ryan Cup success since their 2016 triumph.

Ardscoil Ris take on Thurles CBS this afternoon in the Dean Ryan Cup final with throw-in at 1:30pm in Nenagh’s MacDonagh Park.

It’s a game that’s been long-awaited for last year’s finalists as they overcame St. Colman’s in the semi-final over three weeks ago with the score ending 2-30 to 1-15 in their favour against the Fermoy outfit.

That followed an impressive opening day win against Nenagh where they had 29-points to spare against the Tipp outfit. The North Circular road school have the opportunity to bring the title back for the first time in six years as they remain on the hunt for the third in their history.

Their previous triumphs came in 2009 and ’16 with final defeats in ’19 and ’21.

They face a Thurles CBS side that reached the final with an impressive victory over current title holders St. Flannan’s in the semis. The Tipperary school were narrow 1-20 to 1-17 winners on the day and prevented the Ennis school from moving within one victory of Thurles in the roll of honour. CBS stand alone on 14 titles, ahead of Flannans and St Colman’s on 13.

Paths to the Final

Ardscoil Ris

  • QF – 4-20 to 0-3 v Nenagh C.B.S
  • SF – 2-30 to 1-15 v St. Colman’s

Thurles CBS

  • QF – 0-22 to 0-9 v De La Salle
  • SF – 1-20 to 1-17 v St. Flannan’s

Ardscoil Ris will be hoping to avoid back-to-back defeats in the Dean Ryan Cup final as they were beaten by St. Flannan’s at the same stage of the competition last year.

Ardscoil Ris face Thurles CBS at 1:30pm today in MacDonagh Park in the Dean Ryan Cup final.
