The Hospital-based school have won five successive games en route to the final where they will meet Tipperary opposition.
John The Baptist Community School are in Munster Senior Ladies Football Final this Wednesday afternoon (March 1) when they take on Loretto Clonmel.
Throw in is at 11.30am in Sean Treacy Park in Tipperary Town. It is a return to the provincial decider six yers on from a historic 2017 for the school when they claimed five All-Ireland titles.
Six years ago, the school won both the All-Ireland Senior and Junior Ladies Football titles as well as a pair in Camogie to go with the All-Ireland B Hurling title.
But the current crop are bidding to make their own history this Wednesday and are led by team captain Caoimhe McNamara who is a member of the Limerick minor football squad that defeated Cork in the Munster championship over the weekend.
And after coming so close in previous years, McNamara is looking forward to leading the team out on Munster final day.
“There’s always going to be a few nerves but we are looking forward to it. It’s a great opportunity for us, in the last two years we got to the semi-finals so after getting to a Munster final this year I can’t wait.”
Wednesday’s clash will be JTB’s sixth of the season as they actually began their campiagn with a defeat to Midleton. However successive wins followed against Ballincollig and Colaiste na Sceilge as the qualifed for the quarters.
They were 4-8 to 2-9 winners over Presentation Thurles in the quarters with a comprehensive nine-point victory following against Cashel Community College in the last four.
This Wednesday’s opponents defeated Midleton in their semi-final and coach Brian Egan is under no illusion of the challenge at hand. Still he is confident in his side who had Munster final aspirations from the outset.
“At the start of the year we set out what I thought was a very realistic aim, to get to a Munster final. That was our goal but once you get to a final, you have to go out to win it. We don’t know a whole lot about Clonmel, we know they’re a good team. We know how good Midleton are and Clonmel beat them.
“We know we are capable of winning but we know what is ahead of us.”
John the Baptist have a panel of 33 for the final with six different clubs represented, including one from Tipperary with an Atherlow duo involved. Elsewhere, each player plies their trade in Limerick with St Brigid’s best represented with 16 players in the squad. McNamara is one of 11 from Knockainey. St Ailbes have two while there is one each from Pallasgreen and Galtee Gaels.
